popping and thumping sound

Hi. I've gotten great sound out of my AVS 500 speakers from Altec Lansing, but they've recently started making a constant rapid popping or thumping noise (just from the sub-woffer). After 20 minutes it might go away or die down, but sometimes it does not. Any ideas? I have the latest drivers for my soundblaster audigy soundcard.

Please read before posting- this board is not for computer speakers. That is not real Altec stuff.

That stuff is made by Altec Lansing Technologies. They bought the name only. What you have is far East junk probably not worth fixing.

Voice coil hitting the back plate... ie too much drive, perhaps operating in a reflex enclosure below resonance?
